At the Democratic National Committee’s summer meeting in Minneapolis this past August, North Carolina’s DNC members made their presence known, securing elections and appointments to several influential leadership positions across the organization.
From committee assignments to caucus leadership, Tar Heel Democrats demonstrated both their commitment and their growing influence inside the national party.
John Verdejo of Wake County was re-elected to the Executive Committee and also appointed to the Resolutions Committee.
Winston-Salem City Councilmember DD Adams was appointed to the Resolutions Committee.
At-Large Member Diane Robertson earned a spot on the Credentials Committee.
Vinod Thomas of Mecklenburg County was also appointed to the Credentials Committee.
Reyna Walters-Morgan, DNC Vice-Chair for Civic Engagement and Voter Protection, was elected to the Finance Committee.
Shelia Huggins of Durham County was appointed to the Credentials Committee and elected Secretary of the DNC Black Caucus.
These appointments reflect the promise of newly elected DNC Chair Ken Martin, who committed earlier this year to opening up opportunities for broader participation in party leadership. Martin put out the call for involvement, and North Carolina Democrats answered with enthusiasm and readiness to serve.
The result is clear: North Carolina’s delegation is playing an increasingly important role in shaping the policies, priorities, and future direction of the Democratic National Committee.
